What's the difference between a Cameo video request and a Direct Message (DM)?

Explains the difference between a Cameo video request and a Cameo Direct Message (DM), including what each one is, how they work, and how to tell which one you booked.

Cameo offers two different ways to connect with talent — and they work very differently. Here's the key difference:

Cameo video request

A video request is a personalised video message recorded by the talent specifically for you. You provide instructions (name, occasion, what you'd like them to say), and the talent films and delivers a custom video.

  • What you get: A personalised video you can keep, download, and share.

  • Delivery time: Talent have up to 7 days to complete your request (or 24 hours for express delivery).

  • If not completed: Your order expires automatically and your payment is refunded.

  • Where to find it: cameo.com/orders → Your Orders.

Cameo Direct Message (DM)

A Direct Message is a text message you send directly to a talent's inbox — similar to a social media DM.

  • What you get: The ability to send a message to the talent. A response is not guaranteed — talent respond at their own discretion.

  • Cost: You are charged at the time of sending, not on delivery of a response.

  • No refunds for unanswered DMs: Because you are paying to send the message (not to receive a reply), DMs are non-refundable even if the talent doesn't respond.

  • Where to find it: Your Cameo inbox.

Not sure which one you booked?

Check cameo.com/orders — if your purchase appears there with a status (Pending, In Progress, Completed, etc.), it's a video request. If it doesn't appear there, check your Cameo inbox — it was likely a DM.
